Prei Etz Haim school, Bishkek

The only educational institution providing regular Jewish education in Kyrgyzstan is the Semi-Private Jewish school is “Pri Etz Chaim”.

The school provides general education according to the Kyrgyzstan National Curriculum of secondary education. There are the following subjects at the Jewish department: Hebrew, Jewish History, Jewish Traditions, Tanah, Jewish song, Jewish dancing. Besides that, the study of Israel Literature and Geography of Israel are integrated into the general courses of Literature and Geography.

ORT educational programs are continually modified to meet local educational standards and requirements. ORT developed the school science and technology curriculum based on ORT’s experience and methods used in other ORT schools. In the existing model, junior students are introduced to information technology and basic technological applications. Senior students are offered in-depth training in a number of specific technological fields.  ORT will produce support material, teachers’ guides and textbooks.

In 2001Jewish Family Educational Centre was established in the school. It is created to provide Jewish education to the members of the students’ families, and it’s the children, not the teachers, who frequently conduct the lessons. The centre usually arranges the holidays’ celebrations and actions devoted to the different aspects of Jewish customs and traditions.

School Art Studio is meant for conducting either school or Jewish theatre performances. The annual city Purim traditionally attended by the whole Jewish community of Bishkek is a good evidence of the Studio’s works.
