Resource Centre of ICT “ORT-SPb” (ORT de Gunzburg)

Non-governmental educational organization "ORT-Saint-Petersburg" specializes on realization of the educational projects on the basis of modern informational technologies and is the acknolewged city leader in this field.

"ORT-Saint Petersburg" was founded in Autumn 1992. Official opening ceremony of ORT in Saint-Petersburg was held on the 26 of May 1995 and was timed to the 115 anniversary of ORT. The slogan of the celebration was ‘ORT returns to St. Petersburg’. Numerous friends and visitors, ORT staff and volunteers, journalists, representatives of civil authorities and public organizations came to the event. After establishing of educational complex with International School (now – School # 550) the centre was inaugurated as ORT-Gunzburg Centre.

During the first years of functioning, the activities of "ORT-Saint-Petersburg" were focused on professional retraining of the Jewish population of the city in the field of computer technologies. Considerable part of the course listeners consisted of the future repatriates to Israel.

The Centre took part in the realization of different international projects. Presently, within the numerous educational projects the ORT-Gunzburg Centre carries out courses and seminars, different programs, aimed to the application of the newest information technologies to the education. The ORT-St. Petersburg Centre actively collaborates with City Jewish organizations and schools providing with technical and methodical support.

School # 550 (ORT-Gunzburg Project) ORT-Saint Petersburg Centre

The School was opened as an International School in 1993. In 1994 within the ORT-Gunzburg Project the Centre ‘entered’ to International School of General Education (now – School # 550).   Thanks to the technical and methodical support of ORT-St. Petersburg the School became the most computerized in the city. In 1999 it achieved a status of the school with profound study of information technologies and foreign languages.

Curriculum is drawn up with the authority of Russian National Curriculum. The School curriculum keeps necessary standard structure, educational fields.

Israel educational cycle subjects were brought in School curriculum according to Israel Ministry of education and Saint Petersburg Education Committee.

The study in the School # 550 with profound study of information technologies and foreign languages is realized on two departments:
Jewish department (1-11 forms);
European department (5-11 forms).

On the European department the curriculum includes French instead of Hebrew.

Thanks to the technical and methodical support of ORT-St. Petersburg School students and teachers use IT possibilities and advantages of the direct Internet access. Besides the course of Informatics, new information technologies are studied in the most part of school subjects. Teachers are able to use special programs in different subjects and to develop their own projects.

Elective and project work took an important place in the students’ schedule. There are many courses such as Lego-Logo programming, Multimedia Technologies, School Desk-top Publishing, Web-studio and Computer Physics.
Students participate in International telecommunication competitions.

State Secondary School # 274 (“Yerushalaim”)

School was opened in September, 1, 1966.

In 1995 the School # 274 has got a status of a School with profound studying of foreign languages (German, English, Hebrew). 
The School realizes educational programs: 

  • Basic educational program  - 1-11 form.
  • Enlarged educational program  - 1-7 form.
  • Profound study of foreign languages (German language, English language, Hebrew) - 8 –11 form.

The educational process is based on educational plan:

  1. Plan for Schools with profound studying of foreign language
  2. Plan based on experimental program “Young Generation in 21 Century”
  3. Plan developed by Ministry of Education of Russian Federation  and State of Israel. 

Ministry of Education of Israel opened the Israel department «Yerushalaym» in the School in 1992.

Since 2003 the Centre collaborates with the School # 274 (“Yerushalaym”). In 2005 ORT opened the new computer center in the School.  In all there 48 computers, 46 – from them united to the local net. The local net is connected up to Internet by direct line on 200KB in second speed.

The School has come the laureate of All-Russian competition “School of a Year” (1996-2004), the winner of the competition “The School of 1997 year in Saint Petersburg”, has a diploma of All-Russian competition “Educational Process, Science, Methodical and Experimental Works in School Organization” (1998).

ORT Vocational Training Centre (VTC) at the YESOD

In autumn 2007 opening of the Vocational Training Centre "ORT-Career" established within the frames of the joint program of Carole and Geoffrey Lawson Foundation and World ORT took place. The primary aim of the project is vocational training and retraining for population of various age and social groups for the purpose of improvement their professional skill, career growth or further employment. The "ORT-Career" project united ORT’s long-term experience of working out and carrying out of the various professional-focused educational programs.

The classes, equipped with the modern hi-tech equipment; high-qualified teachers and staff allow listeners receiving skills and knowledge, which are the most demanded on the modern labour market. The centre offers a wide spectrum of educational programs for adults, school and University students.

The system of distance learning developed by ORT gives to various strata of society of the CIS and other countries of the world an access to training on various courses of Vocational Training Centre and to participation in distance seminars and conferences.

Also, on the basis of the new ORT Vocational Training Centre in St.-Petersburg various programs and projects for students, adults and people with the limited abilities are realised.

Within the frames of partner activity World ORT and Íewlett Ðackard Corporation "ORT-Career" Centre was included into the international educational program "ÍÐ GET-IT". Now there are consultations, seminars and trainings for representatives of micro-enterprise using the unique curriculum, developed HP Corporation, are carried out.

 

ORT Technology Centre at the Secondary School “Beit-Sefer Menachem”

School "Beit-Sefer Menachem" is non-governmental educational institution which is carrying out its educational activity on the basis of the state license, had been established in 1995 with support of "Ohr Avner" Foundation.

Training is conducted according the program with additional studying of the second foreign language (Hebrew), Traditions of Jewish people and Jewish history. At the second grade the English language is begun to be taught, Hebrew and Computer Science are studied from the first grade.

Each child could find a training after own heart. Students can stay in school till 18 o'clock in group of the “prolonged day” where it is possible to be engaged in chorus, in Art Studio, in Drama School and Web design studio. Besides the general curriculum out-of-class work is conducted at School actively. Jewish holidays are celebrated and family camps provided both educational and entertaining programs are organised.

Senior students participate in the out-door programs devoted to history of Jews of Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, and also go in tour for Israel. Also  parental club where parents can not only communicate but also to learn a lot of interesting of  Jewish history and traditions, to talk to psychologists, doctors and other experts is functioning.  

Graduates receive governmentally recognized diplomas and continue their education in the best city’s high education institutions, including such as the St.-Petersburg State University, Polytechnical University, the St.-Petersburg Institute of Jewish Studies, University of Technology and Design.

On May, 29th, 2007 the solemn ceremony of ORT Technology Centre opening took place. There were members of ORT Executive Committee, leaders of the Jewish organisations of the city and the Chief Rabbi of Petersburg participated.

Two computer classes of the Centre are equipped with the up-to-date equipment: computers with modern LCD monitors, scanners and graphic pads. During their Technology and Design classes students work with Lego-logo sets. Also smart-boards are maintained in classes.

In the ORT Technology Centre not only Computer Science lessons, but on other disciplines are conducted, school optional courses conducted at the Centre’s classes are of great popularity among students.

Together with the Jewish Community Centre "MAOR" ORT Technology Centre provided various computer courses for adults as well.

 

 

 

ORT ICT Lab at the Israeli Cultural Centre

In 2000 within the frames of the solemn actions devoted to the 120th Anniversary of ORT, official opening of ORT Computer Laboratory at the Israeli Cultural Centre in St.-Petersburg took place. 

In 2004 of ORT opened one more computer class in ICC. 10 modern computers, scanners, and a DVD player were provided.

ORT computer classes at the ICC are used for Hebrew courses, Computer courses, Bases of Computer Graphic and Web – design trainings.

Also web-design studio works on the basis of ORT computer classes.
