ORT Technology Lyceum Kiev, Ukraine

The Technology Lyceum in Kiev was created according to agreement of cooperation between Ministry of Ukraine and Israel Government. The Kiev ORT Lyceum and the ORT Centre were opened with the help of generous funding from Milton and Shirley Gralla, and Rita J. and Stanley H. Kaplan Family Foundation on 25th September 2000.

The ORT Technology Lyceum every year has approximately 280 students (95% of them are Jews). The education curriculum of the ORT Technology Lyceum includes all subjects of the Ukrainian Ministry of Education Curriculum. General subjects taught at the Lyceum include mathematics, science, computers, history, art, music and physical education.  Students learn three languages – Ukrainian, Russian and English.  All students at the Lyceum are enrolled in a Jewish studies curriculum covering Hebrew, Jewish tradition, Jewish history and Israel. There is experiment with Academy of pedagogical sciences of Ukraine “Creation and introduction a new model of ICT high-school on the base of Technology lyceum” since 2005.

Professional orientation courses, such as “Web-design basics”, “Computer technologies in design”, “Programming for economy and business”, “Architecture and landscape design”, were developed by Centre specialists for students of 10-11th grades.

The ORT Technology Lyceum has agreements about cooperation with International Solomon University and Kiev State University of Design and Technology. Every year a few lyceum graduates entered to Solomon University.  The local branch of the prestigious Cisco Networking Academy began its operations using the Lyceum as its base.

Students of lyceum actively participate in work of the Small Academy of Sciences of the Kiev Centre of Creativity of children and youths. A lot of lyceum students took part on scientific conference of Small Academy of Sciences and won ranks of candidates and members of the Small Academy of Sciences.

The ORT Technology Centre consists of Technology Lab, Informatics Lab, Media Library, Network and Resource Lab.  The following equipment is available at the ORT Centre: 55 PCs, 8 scanners, 5 printers, a notebook, 3D-plotter, 2 projectors, TV and video-player, Lego Dacta and TfA kits and Internet.
The ORT Technology Centre is responsible for high-level education of Lyceum students in ICT courses and providing training coursers for teachers. The Technology Centre staff invests efforts in the development and production of innovative curriculum programmes and methodologies to provide students with education for a dynamic and changing world.

The Technology Centre renders multimedia support for teachers in teaching other courses. The Centre staff provides students with the resources for developing their own projects using the most up-to-date multimedia technology.
The Technology Centre renders multimedia support of carrying out celebratory and various actions in lyceum and various PR actions. The Centre is organizing and carrying out of various courses for teachers of lyceum with the purpose of increase of their computer qualification.

The Lyceum students take an active part in actions arranged by the Kiev Jewish Community and the Israel Cultural Centre at the Embassy of Israel in Kiev. There are active work with Avi Hay and Heftsiba organizations.

On October, 23rd, 2009 Íewlett Ðackard together with World ORT opened GET-IT (Graduate Entrepreneurship Training through IT) Ñentre on the basis of the Kiev ORT Technology Lyceum. As a result of "GET-IT" Centre opening one of Lyceum’s classes was completely equipped by laptops and other equipment necessary for providing students with knowledge and skills which should allow them opening their own business after graduating.
