Odessa ORT Resource Technology Centre in Odessa Specialized General ORT School ¹94 with profound study of Hebrew and Informational Technologies
The first ORT artisan school was opened in 1882 on the basis of “TRUD” (“Labor”) society, which was devoted to Jewish youth craft education. This school existed till 1941. ORT came back to Odessa in 1997 with opening educational complex in the name of Sesili Kraizer, Shirli and Milton Gralla in specialized school ¹ 94.
General Jewish School ¹94 was opened in Odessa in 1995 and it is the biggest Secular Jewish school in Odessa now.
There are about 450 students in the school each year. Enrolment is competitive – interview for the first form and tests for others. School works 5 days a week from 8.30 AM to 4 PM.
The School ¹94 is state school and implements curriculum of Ukrainian Ministry of Education and Science. Also there is Jewish curriculum (Hebrew, history and traditions of the Jewish People, Israel geography) according to agreement of cooperation between Ministry of Ukraine and Israel Government of 9th April 2004.
The Resource Technology Centre consists of 4 computer classes (2 classes for IT training – 15 computers per class, Technology class – 8 computers and Science lab) equipped with multimedia and persistent Internet connection. The main guidelines are development of Technology and Profile Education in the secondary school, development of the united informational space of the school, support of teaching Hebrew and Science, technical support of Jewish organizations in Odessa, seminars and trainings for the educators of the region.
Owing to the active cooperation between the School and ORT there were established modern computerized classes, unique educational complex based on LEGO, developed IT course for the 1-11 forms, profile education provided in the senior school. Since 2000 there was implemented Technology course based on physical and computer modelling – there are no analogues outside ORT network in Ukraine.
The teachers and the students of the School are taking part in the international projects, seminars, contests and meetings provided by ORT in fUSSR and worldwide.
There are not only courses for 6-17 year old students in the Centre. In cooperation with Odessa Regional Institute of Teachers Improvement there are regular seminars for the educators of the region. Teachers of the school are also taking part in these seminars and having training on various ORT courses.
